COME TO NEW MALDEN

Fancy a break this autumn? Come to the "Jewel in north Surrey's crown", New Malden!

Shops...restaurants...pubs...a hairdresser...New Malden's got it all! This lively Surrey suburb's the perfect place to get away from the stresses and strains of London life, totally away from it all in an urban oasis that is just 18 minutes from Waterloo.

Here, colourful council house dwellers, wealthy suburban sex offenders and South Korean immigrants all mix together in a vibrant multicultural melting pot, that has lead someone to call it "the Aberdeen of the greater Kingston area".

Come along and see what makes our "city" so special...

Shops

Need some new shoes? Not one but two quality outlets are at your disposal: Independent specialist D Jones, and warehouse powerhouse Shoe Zone.

Need a carpet AND a stereo? Who doesn't? Come along to the North Malden mini mall and go wild in the aisles of Carpet Right and Currys.

Thirsty?

There's a newsagent opposite where you can get a soft drink.

Buy a DVD or used PS2 game at Blockbuster, or lose yourself in the suburban opulence of two-storey shopping mecca, Tudor Williams. Grab much needed cosmetics at Boots, and pick up on sweets and snacks at the Texaco forecourt.

Hungry?

Grab a burger at recently refurbished McDonalds, or top fish and chip restaurant Rock and Roe, named in the top 5 fish and chips places in London, (1994), and in the top 20 best (2003).

A drink and a fight - it's all alright!

Check out The Fountain or Bar Malden for some colourful characters and some old time laughs.

History and Heritage

More than just a pretty face...this Surrey city has tons of amazing history ploughed into its concrete.

  • In the classic TV series The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin, New Malden features twice in the list of excuses Perrin made to his boss for his late arrival at work; one of the claims made is that a badger hit the junction box there.

  • Notable former residents include cricketer Alec Stewart, singer-songwriter John Martyn, fiddler Dave Swarbrick of Fairport Convention, sculptor Anthony Caro and actor, comedian and entertainer Max Wall.

  • Jimmy Tarbuck has a mansion in nearby Coombe, and Pierce Brosnan once worked in Raynes Park, also nearby.
Come to New Malden - where dreams are made - A million miles from London...but only actually 9.2
