NYPD Blue Actor Mark-Paul Gosselaar narrowly avoided death earlier this week. The handsome 34-year-old, still best known for playing lovable rogue Zack Morris for 6 years in classic high school sitcom Saved by the Bell, was ironically reminded of his best known hit during filming of his latest project, legal drama Raising the Bar, in Boston.
The actor was filming a location scene in the city centre, shot walking and talking with a colleague down a busy street, unaware of a crane towering high above, building a new skyscraper office block. Suddenly the crane's grip malfunctioned, dropping steel girders weighing thousands of tons from its jaws, down onto the street below, where the thespians carefully practiced their art.
Miraculously, at that exact moment, the bells of nearby Catholic church St Marys of the Assumption rang out for morning mass, surprising the normally relaxed Gosselaar, causing him to look up and quickly jump out of the way of the rapidly falling girders.
Sadly three of the show's crew members were killed in the freak accident, but Gosselaar saw the funny side, quipping "It looks like I was saved by the bell again!", to laughing reporters.
"Where's Screech when you need him?" he continued, but nobody laughed that time.
