SIOBHAN FAHEY PICTURED FAR LEFT
Former Bananarama member Siobhan Fahey was today nearly killed in a freak accident near her North London home. The ex-star, now 50, chalked up a string of number one hits back in the 1980s as one third of the top pop group, who enjoyed worldwide success that paved the way for the Spice Girls 10 years later.
The band's memorable name never actually meant anything, but perhaps Siobhan might today be wondering if the energy packed fruit might somehow mean more to her life than she thought. On her way home from meeting friends in Camden, Fahey was CROSSING the road, when a TRUCK packed with bananas, SKIPPED the lights, HIT a van at speed, and sent BANANAS FLYING EVERYWHERE.
Fahey was right in the midst of the crossfire, as the bright yellow snack was sent hurtling in every direction. Some bananas smashed on impact with the road, cars and even one unlucky toddler, causing a further unforeseen danger as rescue workers found themselves slipping on the banana skins.
Fahey was amazingly unhurt, as she stooped for protection behind a tourist, but was nevertheless shaken up. "I thought I was going to die" she said.
"With all that fruit flying through the air, it was a total bananarama", one eyewitness honestly said. "I never would have dreamed that one of the members of the band would be there to see it!"
"And they say bananas are good for you!", he added, before being asked to stop speaking.
