THE BROWN SUPREMACY

It's been a while since we've heard from a public figure about their favourite film. Now Prime Minister Gordon Brown shares with us his heavily focus-grouped love of action blockbuster The Bourne Supremacy.

In a time of financial crisis and economic downturn, people want a man of action. A man who knows what he has to do, even if it isn't always pleasant, and will do it with lethal effect. A man who is more superman, an ice cold killing machine - but one with a heart. That man is Gordon Brown / Jason Bourne.

Bourne has already renounced his government assassin past and is now trying to live a quiet life "off the grid" in Goa with his beautiful girlfriend when the movie starts - but the past is about to catch up with him. It's a bit like how I was just worrying about things like terrorism, foot and mouth and my facial tic when suddenly the US sub-prime mortgage crisis hit, and I realised that some of those financial decisions of the past might be back to haunt me.

When Bourne's love is shot dead by a bullet meant for him, he vows vengeance. A bit like when Tony Blair...I love this film.

Then Bourne travels to Germany to find out more, and discovers that he has actually been framed for the recent murders in Berlin of two top CIA operatives. I can't imagine what it must be like to find yourself so incandescent with rage that you seem to be being blamed for all the world's problems, but Bourne is soon on a high powered one man mission to uncover the truth, clear his name and avenge his girlfriend's death.

If you see any similarities with the way I've masterminded the world's collective response to the credit crunch, then that's up to you. I'm not saying anything. Suffice to say Bourne successfully uncovers the conspiracy and clears his name, but it took him some time. Only a few days, really, but this current economic crisis could take longer to solve than that. Give it a month, and it might have blown over. We can do this, together.
