Leicester: Young murder victim Michael Medina's Facebook page in no way gives a remotely accurate portrayal of his life, his family and close friends have said.

"He was a very shy, quiet boy" his mum said. "He didn't really have a lot of friends. He just lived at home, worked at the local petrol station and hung around with his pals, guys he'd known since he was in primary school.

We didn't realise he was living some kind of strange double live until a cousin told us they had left a tribute message to him on his Facebook page, and we might want to have a look. There, we discovered Michael actually had 957 friends, 943 of which he'd never met. There were constant quirky status updates quoting funny song lyrics and the like, and lots and lots of pictures of parties we're all fairly sure Michael never attended".

Biting back tears, his mother continued: "It's very, very sad, really. Not so much his dying, but the way he tried to pretend to be cool on Facebook".
