Dannii Minogue has apologised for the comment that she made about Danyl Johnson's sexuality on last night's The X Factor. The bisexual contestant altered the lyrics of 'And I Am Telling You' by Jennifer Hudson so that he was singing about a woman, rather than a man.
Minogue said: "If you're to believe everything you read in the papers, then you didn't need to change the gender references in the song."
The 37-year-old's remark was met with outrage by Johnson's mentor Simon Cowell, who replied: "You can forget playing any of those games with him. I'm not having that. This guy sang his heart out. Give him some credit."
An X Factor statement on Minogue's official blog explained that the judge had not meant to cause offence. It read: "Dannii is mortified if her comments have been misinterpreted as she has always been hugely supportive of the gay and bisexual community for her entire career."
But just hours later, the true devestation caused by Minogue's bigoted slur were revealed - openly gay pop star Stephen Gately, in many ways the "Proto-Danyl" was dead!
The Boyzone singer died suddenly at the age of 33 while on holiday in Majorca. Spanish police said there were no signs of suspicious circumstances, but the cause of death is not yet known...or is it? Had Minogue not clearly offended the out and proud star to death? She clearly did.
Gately was on holiday with his long-term partner Andy Cowles. His bandmates said they were "completely devastated" and are now travelling to Majorca (but just for a holiday). Boyzone manager Louis Walsh has pulled out of Sunday's edition of ITV1's X Factor in the wake of Gately's death, furious at Danni for killing 20% of his cash cow. The four remaining members of Boyzone described Gately as "our friend and brother". "We have shared such wonderful times together over the years and were all looking forward to sharing many more" a statement said.
Now everyone in the world is furious at Minogue, blaming her for EVERYTHING. "She's fucked the whole world up" one blogger added.

Is it just me or does anyone else feel that had Danyl been more honest throughout this tragic yet seedy affair we'd all still be left with the talents of Mr. Gately? I for one feel that Danyl's changing of the lyrics was meddling with someone's life. Gately was putty in his hands. This time it was Gately's life, perhaps next time Danyl will think twice before dabbling in lyrical gender reassignment. The Chinese call this Schadenfreude, and no wonder.
