Microsoft say that they had to let the paperclip go due to spiralling debts in the continuing economic downturn. The hefty salary they paid him, which is rumoured to run into hundreds of thousands of pounds, as well as controversial performance related bonuses, was just too expensive to justify, sources said.
He was apparently offered a new, lower pay package but declined, opting to instead cash in on massive redundancy-related bonuses, in a move that is sure to enrage ordinary people everywhere.
