The A-list English actor has apparently become crazed and dangerous, confusing his own life with that of the character he played in the 1996 thriller Extreme Measures - Doctor Guy Luthan.
In the minor hit, Grant played a New York emergency room doctor who comes across a homeless patient wearing a wristband from a hospital he's not familiar with, mentioning a drug he's never heard of, with strange symptoms including a wildly fluctuating heart rate.
When the man dies, Guy attempts to follow up and find out more about the patient - only to find that the body and all records have disappeared. Luthan is told by his superiors to drop the case.
When he ignores them, his home is ransacked and cocaine is planted near his bedside. In a twist that shocks no-one, Gene Hackman's evil, moustache-wearing Dr. Myrick is behind the set up.
Indeed, Grant's psychological problems first came to light when he angrily confronted fellow actor Hackman at an AIDS fundraiser in Los Angeles, reluctantly holding a syringe full of HIV to the neck of a terrified Eva Longoria, supposedly to protect himself.
Later Grant calmed down and rejoined the party. When asked why he had attacked Hackman by reporters, he replied "A man died on the operating table today...and I don't have the faintest idea why."
